This happened at last night’s Game Developer Meetup

The stereotypical shy developer was far from the norm at last night’s Game Developer Meetup. With beers in their hands and smiles on their faces, people were chatting and mingling all night.

One of Game City’s main events is the Game Developer Meetups, which happens 4-6 times per year. Usually around 100 developers get together, but at yesterday’s Game Developer Meetup in Malmo, they had a record high attendance of 260 people.

With the game developing market evolving rapidly in Sweden, Game City has no doubt filled a need within the market. The non-profit organisation is a community focused one, arranging events, meetups and workshops as well as supporting the local game startup eco system. As of yesterday they introduced “Community Spotlight” where members of the community got a chance to show what they're presently working on.

Last night's showcases were from these five following game studios:

Lake Ridden Business: Midnight Hub

Game: Lake Ridden

Lake Ridden is a story-driven, first-person mystery, filled with puzzles. A thrilling supernatural adventure where you unravel a dark past, trying to save your sister.

Pixel Shade Business: Pixel Shade

Founder: Dennis Ramberg

Game: Unsung

A Cat is caught up in a circle of events 24 hours prior to the end of the world. Facing this calamity the cat unfortunately dies, only to wake up twenty four hours prior to the event, with eight lives left. With the unique ability of multiple lives, you set out on an adventure to meet friends and learn new abilities in order to change the world and embrace your destiny.

At the time being we are looking for seed investment of € 50.000. This will cover operational costs and specialist outsourcing in order to complete an extensive demo of the game.

With investment we will be on the market in about 2 ½ years.

Bad North Business: Plausible Concept

Game: Bad North

Bad North is a minimalist strategy game; like a tower defence but with small mobile armies. Guard the tiny islands of your kingdom, recruit local nobles to your cause, upgrade your adorable warriors and repel the Viking invaders for good.

Game: My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas

A violent ballet about friendship and imagination where players strategically bounce bullets off frying pans and jump through windows in slow motion.

The next event, Seriously Indie, is on October 11 and will focus on prototyping. Seriously Indie is a recurring event focusing on providing developers with useful and inspirational talks, related to starting and running their own game studio.
